Some additional information on these layouts:

Layout 1a: Space on the left could be used for other introductory text (instructions, date, etc). Clicking the right-pointing hand would take you to the portraits.

Layout 1b: Each portrait will have a clickable hand print that will lead to a zoomed in view of that particular frame.

Layout 1c: Each zoomed in view will show a "fear" picture or personal information. A hand in the bottom-left will return to the wide portrait view.

Layout 2a: The user will be able to click on each chocolate, each corresponding to a student. The resulting window will give information on that student.

Layout 2b: On the back of each piece of foil will be student information. Users can return to the chocolates by clicking the "x" in the top-right corner.

adam.

I think you have a great start on both of these. My suggestions are more for when you incorporate more information.

The haunted house.
I think overall nice mood. I thnk it might be interesting for you to look at this site...it is nothing special but I like that there are so many rooms and no attempt to hide that they don't all flow together. More cubicles than long hallway...just worth thinking about...either direction is fine.

This site also gives you more room for dedicated navigation space...nav bar, tools etc.

here is another design with that idea...

The box of chocolates.
Again...I like the direction this is headed. My afection for this primarily because of the rich color, fabric etc.

I think it might also be interesting to open or bite into the chocolates...i always hated the orange ones...part of the excitement is what yo will find inside the treat.

so perfect at the start and as you spend more time in the site you see half bitten and crumbs and on the secondary page...we see the ones with almonds and mint creme...etc.

Layout 1 I like that you developed this one a bit further than just an idea. My question is, how would the user get to the personal objects/pictures from each initial picture? The frames are sweet. Nice sense of creating mood. The stairs could even be used to categorize groups. Walk upstairs and there's a wall of 4 different people.

Layout 2 Personally I prefer the first layout (things tie in a bit more there, the candies seem to be flat and floating) but I think you could do some really interesting transitions with this layout. Playing with crumpling of the foil or biting away at the candies (like Adream said). I think it would be fun to have a hershey kiss where you can pull on the paper to the point it lists all the personal information on it. One of those candy boxes might be easier (for interface) to use rather than the pink fabric as a background.

These designs are sexy will you be my valentine...jk
I like the idea of a house of horrors alot i think I would make for an incredable interface. I like the main page and the feel you have going. I think the main page of the love one may be a bit unorganized, perhaps putting the chocolates in a heartshaped box or somthing. Other than that though...nice.

Layout 1: I like the horizontal layout. I also like the hand navigation, however suggest that personal information is not included. I think just the picture of the fear would be best, and the only written information be the nameplate on the frame. Pretty much, just keep it as you have it!

Layout 2: I really like the foil idea for displaying the information. However, I suggest that instead of the fabric on the main screen you place the chocolates in a box. This could add just a little bit more order so that the viewer can keep track of what "chocolates" they have looked at.

I think you did a great job of pushing your ideas towards almost polar opposites. The House of Horrors interface is my personal favorite. Not only do I like the concept more, but I think it is the most focused in its design. I think it is more innovative, espcially because of the way in which the content is delivered. Perhaps there can be other objects other than framed pictures which holds content. For example, I was thinking maybe even something like a letter or journal that could be opened and read to describe people's fears (i.e. Journal. Property of Julie. Feb 15, 07. Today as I was walking to class I saw the largest bird swoop over my head. It was horrifying and I hope to never see it again.). I don't know. Just an idea. Maybe a letter would be easier. Or a drawing for those who illustrated.

The candy idea is nice and very concise, but I think possibly the way in which the information is listed might not be as visually stimulating and it has a flatter space to it.

Good Job, Adam.

Layout 1: This layout is pretty cool. You did a good job of creating that haunted effect we were talking about. I think we look too happy in the pictures though, especially if we're doing fears. Pump up the scare. What if we mask us out of the background too and put a new one behind us that somehow alludes to our fears?
It's a strong navigation though, and I think it'd be easy to put subtle navigation signals to enhance the creepy effect. This is my pick of your two.

Layout 2: This one is pretty funny. I like it. Were we only going to have the four choices of our group? Four's never enough chocolate for me. The consistency of the design would make it easy to implement more. I kinda think the background is too bright in relation to the navigation. If you could lower those highlights or even make the chocolates look more realistic into the background, that might give the layout a better unity. I like the depth change once the wrapper unfolds though. That's a good way to show it's the active person.

Layout 1 Both of your designs are good Adam and I think you did a very good job of establishing mood. I like this one better, but it would be nice if we could include other information other than just our fears. I didn't connect at first that the hands on the pictures lead to the next section, but it does make sense with the pointers at the bottom. We might have a second icon for personal information that drops the picture off the wall or something and it is written behind it. I also think we could creepy this up some more, moving eyes, flashing lightning, you know the usual.

Layout 2 Also interesting, and it would be very easy to incorporate our love and/or defining pictures too. I would love to have an animation of unwrapping the candy, or just a chomp noise. It might be interesting to have a cheesy heart shaped box of chocolates with clusters inside to represent the various parts of us that we want to show.
