I think my favorite is the one where you have all the images that we took of what identifies us, with our names by them. I like that method of categorizing us. I think if you could come up with a more stylized layout of that one then you could build on that. Right now it just seems like they were all thrown on the page(even though i know these are only drafts)

First off are there 3 layouts going on here? If so...

the first 1 ( I am assuming) is hard for me to figure out what is going on. I am guessing the male/female icons have our defining images behind them and then when selected that icon changes into our silohette? I like this idea if it was a bit more apparent. I would work with how you would make it apparent that these are selectable and how the user would know that selecting them might bring them into more defining detail.

The 2nd layout is quite easier to understand. Its easy and understandable but it is missing some interesting elements to keep me involved in the page. What is it that will keep me looking within this interaction?

The 3rd layout I like a lot because of the colors and how that intrigues me to go further inside. This I think is your most successful however I feel it does need to be arranged in a more "broken" manner. The grid like structure is fine and understandable but can this be successful in a more interesting way?

i think all your designs have interesting elements.

The strongest is probably the third. It reminds me of a quilt or pantone chip chart. Right now it is lacking a finished quality but is by far the most engaging.

It really gets at the diversity of the class.

Here are a couple of sites to look at.

nice for a grid system

I do like where the man and woman icons are going as well but it lacks content and navigation at the moment...

you might look at information graphics here.
look up richard saul wurman and "Understanding USA" you can get the pdfs online.

Yo Spence,
I think out of all these designs the 2nd concept it the best. It's simple, clean and to the point. I think your first concept looses the simplicity of the cutouts when you put images in them and it can be difficult so see what you are trying to convey.

I think the idea of beginning the interface with our own images (layout 3) is really interesting. It's almost like you would be guessing to see who is who (even though our name is under the image). But on that same layout, I think the second click into a person is almost too systematic. It's all right out there in the open...here's adam, here's his stuff. I would like more of a surprise.

The second layout is sort of the same thing...too organized. It's very centralized and right out there for everyone to see. And also, I'm not sure what you would learn from just a picture of matt and his hatred of milk. Maybe if it was compared to other people (like I know adam has a fear of sour milk) and make a web that way.

The first (as I seem to be working backwards), is an interesting start, but it seems as though it doesn't go very far. Once you click on someone you get their silhouette and a image, but where to go from there? also, very centralized again and a little too simple and it is like you are driving what the user is going to do next as opposed to what we want to do.

Great job, love the three different ideas and your exploration!

i know these are just drafts, but be sure to take into things like typography. the redo of the stick figure one..i actually like it a little bit less because the type is just a bit awkward. on the original, the main page is nice but the inside page is weird and blank. this is where you can use a lot of words, but on the main page i'd try not to overlabel and overstate things. having the only text be people's names is probably your best option- the title can probably go.i like the white background better, it makes everything look very smooth and pure and kind of like elements.

i have the same type comments for layout #2.

layout #3 is probably most developed and the best because it's starting to compile information about everyone. but i wish the bounding box held something of its own besides the info, rather than being completely blank. or at least incorporated a sweet layout that's not a 5x5 checkerboard of photos.

so basically, push your ideas more but pay attention to the details along the way! and everything will develop a lot more.
