I like both of your ideas. The one that really grabs me, though, is the viewmaster. On that one, I wish that the second part (when you're looking through the viewmaster) was larger and not so central. Both designs seems to be very centralized and I think I would like it better if there were some edges being broken and everything wasn't on the screen at once.
Your file idea is a good one, also. I find the first page very appealing (once again, very centered) but the designs of the three different parts are really interesting. The second part of the files confuses me, mostly just because I feel like I would be able to click on any of the tabs, but some are covered and I'm not sure how they would relate to each other.
The "on file" design is a good thought but seems it can go alot further. I know its hard to show motion but how would one experience the transition from the drawers to the files themselves? How does one go back to the drawers?
The viewmaster is alot of fun though and I think most everyone can relate. If I had to choose I would pick this one and see how far we can go with it. The motion of the viewmaster switch is clever.
of your two designs, i definitely like the second one best. my main problem with it is that it is really flat. being such a sweet, vintage children's commodity, the illustration loses its flavor and presents the info kinda blandly. i know you are good at textures from previous work, so bust them out! make the interface as interesting as the information/photos will be. but i definitely like this idea- it's a good way to switch between the photo subjects we were given.
for the cabinet design, i like the cabinets themselves, but the background is again, really flat and doesn't really add anything. maybe try using some sort of actual cabinet background...or an office...or just a real environment that's fitting but not vectored-artificial.
Trevor I definitely like the first concept better. When you described it in class I wasn't sure if it would look good, but now that I see it I think it would work. Instead of your background maybe you could have solid white or black. And the file cabnits could be simplified too. Maybe the only think that would differentiate them would be the font. As a group I think we should consider doing yours.
i think your first design is more resolved as a design. I think that both designs are slightly flat...lots of simple gray areas...try using texture and building some depth into your designs.
I think you all have a lot of great content to work with for these design and right now the content seems almost out of place because it is so lively.
cheesy as it sounds.. i like to refer to the 3 bears of design..momma, papa and baby bear. right now all the design elements are screaming at me...
where are the smaller elements that add some sophistication to the layout?
it is in the smaller details that will make this design successful
look at the site http://www.kirstenmuenster.com/
also...viewmaster is a great idea...but here the flat nature of the drawing makes it seem rushed...you have tons of personality but none of that is showing in the illustration of this design...again it seems flat.
I really enjoy your idea... I loved viewfinders, and it certainly meets the criteria of the project in a creative and interesting way.
My only comment would be that the viewfinder should maybe be slightly more dynamic visually, and less "look at me! i'm from addictinggames.com". But definetly a very cool concept, nonetheless.
i like the viewmaster concept the best. I think you could do a lot with this idea, and to make it even moreinteresting, instead of categorizing the discs by fear, or hates I would do it by person to make the discs more visually interesting. I would also use an image of an actual viewfinder instead of an illuastrated one.
I also like the second concept with the large images but i cant see how another level of it would look. The navigation on the bottom looks simple and organized.

Good job treasure, love your work!
